This is one of my favorite creature feature type flicks. For those who haven't seen it, the film stars Treat Williams, and Famke Janssen. and It's about a boat captain who unwittingly takes a job from group of mercenaries. Unbeknownst to him, they are in cahoots with the owner of a large cruise ship to sink the ship, upon which he will collect the insurance money, and they will rip off the ships wealthy passengers. Seems like a win win situation right? However, no one counted on a mutated sea monster rising from deep beneath the ocean, attacking the cruise ship, and devouring everyone aboard. Now all agendas are put aside as things breakdown into a fight for survival against the mutated seabeast. Those who have seen this movie, might recall it's cliffhanger ending. Finnegan, Trillian, and Joey all wind up on an island, and something large and angry is crashing through the trees and making it's way towards them. It's been around 6 years or so since this films release, and still no sequel. I for one, would love to see one, and still hold out hope that the people over at Dimension Films or Beuna Vista will get the idea to make a sequel to it. Discuss.

I enjoyed "Deep Rising". It's one of those monster movies where when the monster shows up, all you can say is 'What the f*** is that?!' :funnyshyt: . A sequel is extremely wishful thinking, since the first didn't exactly break any box office records, and bombed for the most part. Besides at this point, I'm sure Famke Janssen thinks shes too Hollywood now to return for a sequel to this type of movie. Treat Williams and the guy who played Joey have nothing better to do though. It wouldn't be hard to get both of them back.

This movie is a sad case of being one of those movies that will never get a sequel. It was such a huge financial loss for the studio. They released this movie at the wrong time.I mean January, for a movie like this? This was sooo a summer movie.

I'd like to see a sequel myself. This gets discussed at the IMDB board all the time. Will there be a sequel etc etc. The truth is it just will NEVER happen. It was a financial loss, and with Disney concentrating heavily on stuff which makes money them like "Herbie Fully Loaded",and Buena Vista with "Dark Water" why should they even bother doing a sequel to "Deep Rising"?

You would think studio heads would know that a movie like this is built for the summer box office. and Not that January down period.

I never even heard of this movie happened to catch it on cable last night by chance. I only stayed tuned in because Famke Janssen was in it and well you know . But anyways, this flick was pretty damn good. The acting was superb, and even the heartless mercenary guys were likeable. Treat Williams was awesome in the lead too, and what can you say about Joey? The guy was hilarious. So after finding out this film was made back in the 90's, I too wonder why a sequel was never made, especially since it was set up so nicely for one. Elm Street Nightmare

No please don't make a sequel to DEEP RISING! It was so unbelieveable I couldn't enjoy it at all. The monster was amazing but how could it have gotten it's tentacles all around that ship and keep giving chase to everyone? An Octopus doesn't even have a wingspan of that magnitude despite having multiple tentacles. And if Somers expects me to believe that two people on a waterski could outrun that thing he's sadly mistaken.

So wherever it heard sounds or sensed movement that's where it positioned itself to attack which is why it wound up taking out nearly everyone. There was alot of screaming, yelling, gunfire, etc. The people on the ship Hanover, Finnigan, etc. sure did not make it hard for the creature to find out where they were on the ship.
