Do you guys remember this 1973 horror movie? It was made for television, and premiered on ABC in 1973. It was about a woman named Sally who moves into this old gothic mansion that has been owned by her family for generations with her husband whos a businessman. Things take a turn for the terrifying when she re-opens up the fireplace in her grandfathers old study against the wishes of the old handyman named Mr Harris. The fireplace covers up a seemingly bottomless hole and pretty soon Sally is being tormented by these evil demon gnome beings who are hell bent on taking her down into their world which is in the fireplace. This is a very creepy old school horror movie. It relies on atmosphere and fear of the unknown rather than blood and gore. Also, little demon gnomes are always freaky in their own way .

I remember seeing this a few years ago on ABC I think. Late one night,a week night I believe.I really enjoyed it. It was very atmospheric and tense.Shocked was I when I read up on it and found out it was a very old made for television film. It's a shame that current made for tv horror films don't turn out like this gem did.SCI-FI could learn a thing or 4 from the people behind "Don't be afraid of the dark".

I've heard great things about how scary this movie is. Never got a chance to see it though. I hear it's being remade in the near future.

I really want to see this because it was a made for tv horror film, yet it is regarded as one of the scariest horror movies of all time by many people who've seen it. If a made for television effort can be ranked by horror fans in the same category as classics like "The Exorcist" and "Halloween", then I have to see it with my own two eyes.

Don't be afraid of the dark is one of the best cult horror films out there. They don't show this on tv often enough.

Yes...it is. #Sniffles_anim# Really? Wow nothings safe anymore is it? DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK needs a remake. It would be good for this generation to see this movie in updated form.

Going against general concensus here 'Don't be afraid of the dark' is overrated imo. It had it's creepy moments don't get me wrong but the plot is so thin and alot of things are left unexplained ...ike where do these demons come from and why did her relative try and seal them into the fireplace?

"DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK" deserves a spot in the top 10 scariest movies of all time list. I actually thought it was scarier than "THE EXORCIST". #scared0002#
