Gonna try and help Michy out here best I can because I myself after seeing this movie 10 times in 4 years still have alot of unanswered questions myself.
Virginia was set up to be the killer but I think the ending was re-written, which is why when the real killer is revealed you sort of sit there scratching your head.
Not sure if it was really re-written but I suspect it was. Theory number two comes in the form of thinking that maybe Virginia secretly hated her friends and wanted to see them get what was coming to them. She might have already knew or had a suspicion about who the killer was but decided to keep it secret.

That just means that they rewrote it, but didn't rewrite it to MAKE ANY SENSE! As for theory #2, yeah, that's all I could come up with as well. Maybe she really did hate her friends... maybe she was pretending to be innocent when she knew what was going on all along, I don't know. I hate being confused.

It makes sense to me, slasher fan's theory number 2 that is. If you had a group of friends you really hated and someone was offing them, sometimes your hatred of them would override your sense of duty to alert the authorities or your friends. But it all depends on how much you hate them, Virginia based on that theory must've hated them more than any of us will ever know.

Ratting out the killer is always a bad idea in horror films, should they elude capture you know they'll be coming for you next.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME had a really ingenius idea for a slasher movie on a low budget. Which is why this movie is one of my all-time favorites! It's like rather than some long, drawn out highly improbable explanation from the killer about how he or she is gonna frame this person for the killings, the girl just said "oh, I'll have a mask made up to look exactly like Virginia and thus people will believe she's the killer, allowing for me to get away with it clean". Way smart and way cool twist to the film.

I thought "Happy Birthday To Me" was stupid. Especially at the end when the chick organizes the birthday party and puts all of Virginia's dead friends corpses in the chairs just so she can reveal herself to Virginia. If she were smart she would've just left town with the knowledge that she got away with everything.

'happy birthday to me' was an awesome slasher movie. It could use a remake just to expose it to a new and broader audience.

I have the DVD and it's not a bad movie. However, doesn't it seem as though the killings might be edited ?

I also heard that the music is not the original soundtrack. I loved the beginning of the movie.
